Senior Coach and manager of the FuncFit Program.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Cheryl chanced upon a sport called Strongman when she was a student, and it’s life changing ever since. She then ventured into various sports like Weightlifting, Powerlifting, CrossFit, Dragon boat and Outrigger Canoe. Learning the different aspects and techniques of the sport, and eventually help others with her experiences and knowledge is what she enjoys most.

Her best achievement is winning the title of Singapore Strongest Woman in 2013 and 2015.

With her bubbly and cheery character, you’ll definitely have an awesome workout! Come join her on the weekdays!

Gifford Mak

Coach for FuncFit Program

“Eyes closed, head first, can’t lose.”

Gifford’s passion in coaching stems from his desire to return back to the community at Solitude of Strength where he started off as a regular member. His passion for the sport led him to pursue a CrossFit Level 1 certification and has been coaching classes since 2016. He takes pride in being able to empathise with the struggles of the average athlete coming through the doors since he was in their position not too long ago.

Being a strong believer in well-balanced lifestyles, he advocates that health and wellness does not have to come at the expense of enjoying the joys of life. Find a reason to work out, train hard, and be better than you were yesterday. You can’t lose.

Emmanuel Sim

Coach for FuncFit Program

“Be Kind, Be Better, Be Yourself!”

Be Kind, Be Better, Be Yourself! Those are the words that Emmanuel strives to achieve in his daily life and also in his coaching. Since 2015, Emmanuel has been deeply involved in the setup at Solitude of Strength, starting out as a member and slowly evolving into one of the coaches, imparting his own unique brand of “thinking” workouts to his Sunday Metcon class.

Involved in competitive sports since young, Emmanuel has always had a keen interest in fitness and finding ways and methods to sharpen his edge. He is often found trawling fitness websites for new ways to “inspire” his students and for shopping deals for new shoes and fitness gear.
Cheerful and always approachable, come try his class on Sundays and maybe he’ll share a deal or two with you.

Shing Kwan

Coach for FuncFit Program

“Even if you can’t perform at a high level, showing up and doing something is still a thousand times better than not showing up at all.”

Shing was largely a recreational sportsperson in school (enjoying Football, Hockey, Ultimate, Rugby, and Sepak Takraw). He never took easily to PE classes and always felt largely sidelined by conventional fitness standards in Singapore.

Joining the workforce made him think a lot harder about what he was doing about his levels of fitness. Never a shining beacon of fitness, but now wanting to use his insurance benefits at work, he signed up to a commercial gym where he (wanting to get his money’s worth) trained consistently and systematically over the last 4 years.

In that process, there have been many lessons learnt in consistency, in programming, and in humility. With that motivation, he is inspired to want to also help the everyday athlete discover their self learning path to excellence through discipline, not motivation.

Starting his coaching journey in 2019, he is looking to be CF L1 certified and is also pursuing a Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification.
